Starting a workout

How to go from a ready routine to active playback, and what the countdown does.

Open a routine and tap Start Routine. A 3-2-1-GO countdown plays, then the first exercise begins.

What happens at start

  • The routine enters playback mode — full-screen, timer-focused

  • The first exercise card expands, showing the current timer or rep target

  • Audio cues and haptics fire on transitions (so you can keep your eyes off the phone)

The 3-2-1-GO countdown

This gives you a moment to settle into position before the timer starts. You can't skip it — it's there on purpose, so the first exercise's timer reflects actual work time.

Mid-workout essentials

  • Play/pause — tap the center button. Pauses pause the timer, not just the visual countdown.

  • Skip — jumps to the next exercise. Useful when you want to bail on one.

  • Double-tap to skip — hidden gesture, same as the skip button, just faster.

  • Tap a timer — expands the exercise card for more detail.

See Playback controls for the full list.

While the app is active

Your phone stays awake during a workout (screen doesn't dim). If you background the app mid-workout, it keeps running — return to see the session continue.

Finishing

When you complete the last exercise, a completion screen appears with your stats. See Finishing a workout.
